Should I buy a DIY frame kit instead of a full desk?

A frame-only kit can be a money-saver if you already own a solid top. The catch is that you give up the desktop warranty, and you're responsible for making sure the top is compatible. In our Q3 2024 audit, DIY kits showed a higher rate of installation errors than full desks—not because the frames are flawed, but because people skipped the torque specifications. Don't overpay for extra memory buttons—you'll use two presets at most (sitting and standing). The extras are like having a scientific notation calculator on your phone: nice to know it's there, but you'll mostly use add and subtract. In other words, the motor and frame quality matter more than the app's feature list.
